The transformation of resource-based cities is a long-term and complicated systematic project.Although the transformation of resource-exhausted cities has achieved certain progress under the strong support of national policies and the joint efforts of various local governments and departments. However, the transformation of resource-exhausted cities faces many challenges.Mainly manifested in the following: industrial development is still highly dependent on resources, and resource-based economic characteristics are still obvious;generally less attractive to talent and innovation elements, and the endogenous power to support high-quality development is insufficient;Urban spatial form still presents a decentralized development trend,Is not conducive to the cultivation of diversified industries and the promotion of urban economic vitality. Therefore,it is of great practical significance to research the relationship between the evolution of urban spatial structure and industrial succession of resource-exhausted cities for industrial structure optimization, spatial structure adjustment and promotion of sustainable urban development. This article takes the urban spatial structure as a research perspective, and uses the nighttime lights data and industrial enterprise data as sample data. The article uses multiple statistical methods such as industrial diversity and threshold panel models to explore the relationship between the evolution of resource-exhausted urban spatial structure and industrial succession.First, combine macro statistical data and micro enterprise data to measure the structural changes, pillar industry identification, and path creation level of 24 resourceexhausted cities, and to sort out the evolution process and characteristics of the industrial structure;then, based on the life cycle theory of resource-based cities,it summarizes the evolutionary patterns and changes of the spatial structure of resource-based cities. It uses the nighttime lights image to quantitatively measure the spatial priority of central urban areas, and comparatively analyzes the changes before and after the cities' transformation.Afterwards, taking 115 resource-based cities as a research sample, the threshold panel model was used to analyze the nonlinear interrelationship between the industrial structure and spatial structure of the resource-based city during the complete life cycle. Finally, according to the above rules, the 24 resourceexhausted cities are divided into different types, and policy recommendations are proposed for the transformation of resource-exhausted cities in the perspective of urban spatial evolution. In summary, the logic of this article is from the current situation research to the rule summary, and then back to the practical guidance. This paper draws the following four conclusions:(1)Since the implementation of the resource-depleted city transformation work, the proportion of extractive industries in 24 resource-exhausted cities has shown obviously downward trend;the proportion of the output value of extractive industries and resource-based industries in the total industrial output value has shown downward trend, but it is still higher than National average level;overall industrial development capacity has improved significantly, but compared with the national average level, there is still a certain gap.In general, the resource-exhausted urban industry has achieved remarkable achievements in the past ten years of industrial transformation, but there are still imbalances and inadequate transformation development problems, and the task of urban transformation is still arduous.(2)By summarizing and sorting the pillar industries of resource-exhausted cities, the author found that except for Shuangyashan City,Puyang City, and Luzhou City, the remaining pillar industries of resourceexhausted cities are still resource industries. It shows the predicament of the city's economy that the resourceexhausted city's resource-based industries dominate has not been completely broken. From the perspective of resource and non-resource industries, the level of creation of non-resource industries is generally higher than that of resource industries.(3)Based on the life cycle theory of resource-based cities, the evolution model of the spatial structure of resource-based cities is summarized, and the overall urban spatial structure presents a development process of “diversification first, then aggregation”.According to the results of the spatial concentration of the central urban areas of resource-exhausted cities,resource-exhausted cities' the spatial concentration shows a downward trend, and the distinctive characteristics of different cities are significant.(4)Using the threshold panel model, the article analyzes the relationship between urban spatial structure evolution and industrial succession, and found that there is a significant "inverted U" role relationship between industrial evolution and spatial structure. The spatial structure evolution process is divided into three stages: rapid dispersion, steady development, and rapid aggregation.Through the above research, this article aims to reveal the relationship between the evolution of urban spatial structure and industrial succession, enrich the diversity of research methods for resource-based city transformation, expand the research perspective of the research on sustainable development of resourcebased cities.I hope it can provide scientific support for the formulation of policies about resource-exhausted urban transformation.
