Research On The Industrial Heritage Of Guangdong Railway

As one of the earliest regions to develop railway in China,Guangdong has a long history in railway construction and occupies an important position in the history of railway in China.Since 1901,the Guangzhou-Samshui railway,the Swatow-Chaochowfu railway,the Guangzhou-Kowloon railway,the Sunning railway and the Canton-Hankow railway have all been opened to traffic.After the founding of New China,railway construction has been further developed.These construction is closely related to many historical events and historical figures,which is the historical witness of the modern development of Guangdong and even Chinese society.However,with the rapid development of China's railway technology,these early railway lines can not meet the needs of the modern society any more.Therefore,a great deal of Guangdong railway industrial heritage have been formed in the process of one hundred years' development.These railway industrial heritage are in large quantities,rich in types and of high value,which have become the spatial carrier of the development of Guangdong society.Firstly,this paper reviews the historical development of Guangdong railway,and studies the construction process of several railway lines in the late Qing Dynasty,the Republic of China and the New China period respectively,in terms of the construction background,line selection,station construction,traffic significance and other aspects,which lay a theoretical foundation for the research.Secondly,combining with historical documents and field research,this paper explains the reasons for the formation of Guangdong railway industrial heritage,and summarizes the temporal and spatial distribution of Guangdong railway industrial heritage and the status of the heritage.Based on the research above,this paper analyzes the types and characteristics of Guangdong railway industrial heritage,and reveals the historical,artistic,scientific and social values contained in the heritage.Finally,this paper illustrates the problems in the protection and utilization of the railway industrial heritage in Guangdong.By building the value evaluation system of Guangdong railway industrial heritage,the classified strategy of heritage is affirmed in the conservation and reuse of heritage.At the same time,this paper puts forward suggestions on the protection and reuse of Guangdong railway industrial heritage from the aspects of system,planning,architecture and landscape,so as to promote the sustainable development of Guangdong railway industrial heritage.
