A Practice Report On The English Translation Of "Wheel Drive Hydraulic Hybrid Vehicle Research"(Excerpt)

The influence of globalization has been expanded from economy into many other areas,such as the field of science and technology.Achievements in science and technology have brought a great number of changes into people's daily life,and there is a need for them to be exchanged among countries and universities.Therefore,the great value of translation in academic communications is highlighted.In recent years,many studies and researches have be conducted and many theories have been put forward in the translation of scientific and technological articles and essays,for instance,the skopos theory.Based on the three rules of the skopos theory,this thesis concludes practical translation methods that are useful for scientific and technological essay translation.The case study of this thesis is divided into three parts.In the first part,the thesis introduces two skills under the guidance of the skopos rule: dividing long sentences into several shorter ones and replacing original subjects.The second part is about translation skills under the guidance of the coherence rule: modifier postposition and sentence order readjustment.The third part is guided by the fidelity rule and put forward the following two skills: adding logical conjunctions and translating non-subject sentences into passive sentences.Case study on each skill is composed of translation example and analyses.Based on case study analyses,this thesis comes to a conclusion that the skopos theory is practical and useful in scientific and technological translation.
