In recent years,the Chinese language teaching has gained the great attention of number of countries in the world.Sri Lanka and China are two significant countries whose friendship is bounded economically and culturally since in ancient times.As a result of the"One belt one road" newly established project concept,the relationship between China and Sri Lanka is day by day increasing.Gradually,a vast number of students are motivated to learn Chinese language because of its essentiality in Contemporary Sri Lankan society.There is any scholar in Sri Lanka or even in China has not yet researched the Culture curriculum established in the University of Kelaniya,Sri Lanka.The University of Kelaniya,Sri Lanka has gained the highest prestige by becoming the founder institution of Chinese language teaching.In order to promote the Chinese language learning successfully in local education system,University of Kelaniya has specially designed Chinese language teaching focusing on the successful achievements of local students in source language environment.Currently,the University students have the opportunity to learn Chinese language as a specialized subject and as a non-specialized subject as well.Chinese culture is one subject of the Chinese language course designed in the University syllabus.This course content facilitates the students in University of Kalaniya to gain a vast knowledge about the Chinese culture.This study mainly focuses on the current situation of Chinese culture curriculum in the University of Kelaniya including the teaching and learning methods used in intercultural background,the curriculum designing,the Chinese culture materials usage and provide suggestions for the betterment of the Chinese culture teaching in Sri Lankan Universities.This research mainly consists of four Chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.This chapter mainly discusses on the importance of the research theme,research ideology,documentary review and the Chinese teaching research work done by the scholars in Sri Lanka.Under the documentary review,the author mainly focuses on the principles,teaching content,teaching methods,teaching patters and material theories in order to create a better understanding on the local and international developments of the Chinese culture curriculum teaching including related research trends and also to clarify the basic concepts used in this research.Similarly,this research discusses on the development of the current Chinese education and Chinese culture curriculum in Sri Lanka.The send chapter of this research discusses on the research designing on the Culture curriculum of the University of Kelaniya.Under this chapter,the author focuses on discussing the research sample,research content,research methods and the research carrier.The research sample consisted of 100 students representing special and general degree students and 7 Chinese language teachers.The research methods used were the questioner research method,the interview method and the classroom observation method.The research content mainly focuses on the facts below:The significant characteristics of the culture curriculum in the University of Kelaniya,the teaching methods used by the teachers,the learning methods used by the students and the usage of the teaching material.The third chapter of this study mainly focuses on the data analysis and the problems that exist in the Chinese culture curriculum in the University of Kelaniya.The results reveal that,the time allocation for the culture curriculum is not sufficient.It causes unable to arrange a satisfied leaning content for students;the teaching equipment and facilities are not sufficient.That makes it difficult to gain effective results of teaching;the curriculum objective and the content are not perfect in designing as it only focuses on the development of the theoretical culture knowledge of the students;the teaching pattern in between local teacher and the volunteer teacher is not fruitful enough,it causes unable to gain the anticipated teaching results in culture curriculum;the teaching methods used are not flexible to attain the culture enrichment goals in Chinese culture teaching;the culture material does not contain a good teaching aim,the degree of its difficulty is not sufficient enough to fulfil the learning requirements of the students.In forth chapter,the author proposes some revisions to be done in the Chinese culture curriculum of the University of Kelaniya.It should be extended the time period of teaching Chinese culture;should provide more teaching facilities in order to let the teacher more convenient to engage in teaching;should formulate a culture teaching syllabus and set up a clear teaching objective and a content in it;should establish an effective co-operative teaching pattern by strengthening the communication in between local and volunteer Chinese teachers;the teacher should regulate the teaching methods according to the culture learning requirements of the students;the teacher also should let the students learn culture through practice in the classroom;the culture teaching should be based on student centered learning while enhancing the students' interests towards the culture curriculum and cultivating students' Chinese culture learning abilities,the study also encourages the local scholars to compile the Sri Lankan local teaching materials related to the Chinese culture.The fifth chapter consists of the conclusion and the research prospect.In this chapter,the writer summarizes the research content by providing the writer's conclusion view on research.Finally,this research work looks forward to develop and promote the Chinese culture education by providing reference to the future research carrier in order to enhance the Chinese culture education in the universities of Sri Lanka.
