This is a report on English-Chinese translation of A Report on the E-C Translation of Fundamental Change:Innovation in America's School Under Race to the Top(Chapter 2-3).The original text is a report published by the U.S.Department of Education in September 2015.It is authoritative and its style is widely used.The document belongs to the informative text type,which is mainly aimed at presenting facts.Therefore,the primary task of translation should be reproducing the content of the source text,and the translation strategy should be chosen according to the text features.This translation practice report is divided into four parts.The third part is the core content,which analyzes the translation strategies and methods used in the translation process.Based on the characteristics of the text being translated,the report takes the three rules of Skopos theory as the theoretical cornerstone,and discusses the translation methods of the terminologies and long simple sentences in the text.The main translation methods of terminologies discussed in the third part are paraphrasing and amplification.The methods of restructuring,adjustment of word order and combination are used to translate long simple sentences in the report.During the process of translation,the author realizes that the three rules of Skopos theory is very valuable in guiding the translation practice of informative text.The author also knows there is a hard and long way to go to become a qualified translator.The author sincerely hopes that this report would provide reference for other translators.
