| As globalization proceeds,an increasing number of people have got a desire to explore exotic customs.The primary media to obtain this information is soft news coming through various international social media platforms,which connect billions of people.Therefore,more and more translators have started to pay attention to the trans-editing of soft news from foreign websites.This report is based on the E-C trans-editing of social news that the translator has done on huanqiu website.The translator passed the entrance test and entered social news channel of huanqiu website as an intern on March 20,2017,and the major tasks were to translate soft news regarding entertainment and fashion.The translator has translated 48 pieces of news,adding up to 18592 Chinese characters,and all of these 48 pieces have been published online.Social news is a sub-category of soft news,which covers a wide range of topics.It is rich in humanity and has vivid and amusing language.Soft news is unrelated to the vital interest of people.it mainly provides people with topics to talk about during leisure time and brings them joy.Therefore,the top priority of the translator is to make the translation attractive and interesting.In addition,the translation should also be coherent in language and loyal to the original text.Concerning the characteristics and functions of soft news,the translator chose skopos theory as the main guiding theory of this translation practice.Skopos theory is the core of functionalist translation theory,which focuses on the study of translation purposes and regards "appropriateness" as the criterion for evaluating the quality of translation.Skopos theory has three basic rules,namely: skopos rule,coherence rule,and fidelity rule.According to the skopos rule,the translator adopted omission and selective translation while doing trans-editing to make the target text more attractive to readers.Under the guidance of the coherence rule,the translator made the translation more readable by adjusting word order and using appropriate language.Based on the fidelity rule,the translator translated the most important and attractive parts faithfully and disposed each detail properly.This report is mainly divided into four parts.The first part is a description of the translation material,which includes the source of the translation material,the content of the translation material and the requirements of the client.The second part is about the processes of this practice,including specific translation processes and theoretical foundation.The third part is cases studies,which is the key chapter of this report.In this part,the translator exemplified and analyzed the trans-editing of headline,lead and body separately.The forth part is conclusion.It concludes experiences the translator has obtained and shortages the translator has found during the translation practice.Hopefully,this report can manifest the guidance of skopos theory for soft news trans-editing and provide some useful references to other translators. |
