A Practice Report On Simulated Simultaneous C-E Interpreting With Scripts Of A Special CCTV Program Year After Year

In recent years,China has become strong and prosperous,and the Chinese culture has been spread to many other countries across the world.An increasing number of foreigners have a keen interest in Chinese culture and are especially interested in traditional Chinese festivals.Because of the different geographical location,environment and historical accumulation,the custom of the festival is different from region to region.The program Year after Year begins before the Spring Festival Gala,which has been broadcast for the consecutive fifteen years.This program unfolds the culture of the Spring Festival to the audience.The author chose the first episode of Year after Year of 2017 as the interpreting practice,which is about 40 minute-long.The extracted parts consist of three parts respectively named as “Welcoming the Spring Festival across the country”,“I am the Chinese Spring Festival---The Evolution of the Chinese Spring Festival” and “Kai Feng in He Nan Province: Traversing back to the Song Dynasty.”The contents include the conversation between two presenters and the report of the journalists.Taking into consideration that the simultaneous interpreting is more proper to fulfill the need of the synchronization of the talk show and the frames,this report adopts simultaneous interpreting with scripts due to the language feature and the speed of the presenters.Guided by the interpretive theory,this report carefully discussed the interpreting skills used in the process of the interpreting.The author also described difficulties met in the interpreting and put forward respective solutions.The report consists of four parts.In the first part,the author briefly introduced the program Year after Year and the content of it in 2017.In the second part,the author introduced the preparation before the interpreting,including background information of the Spring Festival and related vocabularies.The third part is the most important one,in which the author used case analysis to elaborate on how to use interpreting skills like condense,omission,free translation and fuzzy expression to transfer the information of the source language under the guidance of the interpretive theory.In the fourth part,the author discussed the difficulties met in the interpreting process and came up with corresponding solutions,including interpretation of names of Chinese food,Chinese poems and folk custom activities.At the end of the report,the author summarized this simulated practice and shared her feelings and experiences of during the practice.
