The translation material of the report comes from the first chapter “Mutations in Urban Form” of Global Cities and Global Order written by Simon Curtis. This book demonstrates the rise of the global city in the process of the transformation of international political order and the far-reaching significance of the re-emergence of cities from the long shadow of the nation-state.The excerpt part of the translation report mainly introduces the mutations in urban form and the four historical periods of urban life. After analyzing the text, the author chooses the proper translation methods and translation skills. The main translation methods are literal translation and free translation, and the translation skills include part-of-speech conversion, long sentence decomposition, and word order adjustment. The author summarizes the difficulties and divides them into two aspects: vocabulary and syntax, and these difficulties are analyzed in detail in the case analysis part. After the translation, the author realizes that the translation work has a higher standard for the translator's comprehensive ability. In order to be good at translation, the translator should not only master some specialized knowledge, but also broaden the general knowledge, the most important is to keep a rigorous attitude all the time.
