Existential sentence is a common usage both in Chinese and in Spanish.A contrastive study on existential sentences of the two languages would be helpful for Chinese learners whose mother tongue is Spanish.However,there is no clear definition of the existential sentence in Spanish,and there is still a lack of literature on contrastive study on existential sentences between Chinese and Spanish.Based on the definition of existential sentences in Chinese and other indo-european languages,this paper defines the existential sentence in Spanish from two aspects: semantics and syntactic format.In this paper,a typical sentence pattern in Chinese and Spanish is selected as the research object.Through syntactic component analysis and pragmatic function,this paper makes a comparative analysis of the existential sentences of two languages and tries to find out the similarities and differences between the two languages.Chapter 1 is an introduction,it introduces the reasons for the topic selection,the significance,the ideas and the methods,and also summarizes the previous research on the existential sentences in Chinese and Spanish.Chapter 2 defines the scope of existential sentences in the two languages respectively,and classifies their patterns according to the existential verbs.Chapter 3 divides the existential sentences into three syntactic elements: "place words","predicate verbs" and "existence subject",then analyzes and compares each of them.Chapter 4 compares the pragmatics of existential sentences in the two languages.In Chapter 5 of the paper,the partial analysis was conducted to collect the corpus materials through the issuance of the questionnaire.This paper analyzes the errors in learning existential sentences and its causes by using the corpus of Chinese learners whose mother tongue is Spanish.Therefore,it discusses the teaching strategies,so as to provide feasible suggestions for the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language,and to help students whose mother tongue is Spanish to grasp the existential sentence of Chinese.
