The Hour of Land:A Personal Topography of America's National Parks written by Terry Tempest Williams is a collection of essays of naturalism which writes the author's experience in several American national parks with her family members.As a naturalism writer as well as a researcher of natural history,Terry Tempest Williams combines this two features,and writes this book in both an emotional and reasonable way.Besides recalling the stories and the experiences in America's national parks,she also introduces the history of the national parks and current ecological situation.Meanwhile,this book aims to arouse reader's awareness of the environmental protection and the respect to natural landscapes.Some chapters of The Hour of Land:A Personal Topography of America's National Parks were translated by the author of this report,and under the guiding function of Skopos theory,this report talked about the strategies of four-character words translation and long sentences translation.After analyzing the source text and according to Skopos theory,the translator chose appropriate translation methods to finish the text successfully.Based on the three rules of the Skopos theory which includes Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,the translator adopted different translation strategies such as adaption,addiction,omission division and recast to solve the lexical and syntactical problems so as to convey the original meaning of the source text as much as possible.Skopos theory can ensure the accuracy of the source text as well as the literariness of the text.
