Punctuation is one of the important parts of Chinese writing.The writing of Chinese is closely related to the punctuation.It has a direct influence on the improvement of his writing ability if the learner understands the standard usage of Chinese punctuation.Therefore,punctuation should not be ignored in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.However,the current syllabus has no teaching requirements for punctuation,with no teaching content in any teaching materials.Even while teaching,most Chinese teachers ignore punctuation education.Therefore,foreign students,including those high level competitors in "Chinese Bridge",do not know enough(some do not even know it at all)about the use of punctuation,and that is why there were many punctuation errors in the process of Chinese writing.The "Chinese Bridge" competition has brought about an important developing Chinese opportunity to students from all over the world.Meanwhile,it has also provided us(the Chinese researchers)with an abundant amount of research material,and it is the most vivid dynamic corpus.In this paper,those Chinese punctuation errors in the research corpus were analyzed comprehensively,for I chose the competitors' Chinese writing composition in the first round of 16th "Chinese Bridge"as the research object,based on plenty of material.I used error analysis,statistical analysis of data,questionnaire surveys and other research methods comprehensively,and researched from the three aspects of punctuation writing form,writing format and usage function.The results showed that the total number of punctuation used by the competitors was 1620(1583 errors are made)in the 132 sets of data.The competitors encounter most errors in the writing format,and the errors in functional use are the least made.The comma is used most frequently,and produces the most errors.Then I analyzed the causes of errors from several key factors in the process of error formation:teaching,teaching material and competitor's own factors.Then,I put forward specific suggestions on how to improve punctuation teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language from four aspects of teachers,students,teaching materials and teaching,and gave specific teaching designs.
