Guided by Equivalence Theory of W.Koller, the writer of this report translated Pragmatics(the first part)and completed this practice study report(no Chinese version published yet).Equivalence Theory by Koller includes five concepts: denotative equivalence, connotative equivalence,text-normative equivalence, pragmatic equivalence and formal-aesthetic equivalence. These are necessary issues that shall be considered during translation process.Guided by equivalence theory, the writer tries to realize the five aspects of equivalence between Chinese and English.Besides, this theory is also regarded as the standard for the translated text evaluation to check if the equivalence is realized or not.Under the guidance of equivalence theory, the writer selected dozens of sentences and texts to analysis, trying to explore the strategies and skills can be used in textbook translation. The strategies and skills can be applied are amplification and omission, liberal translation, division and combination, conversion, information reorganization, negation.By the Chinese version of Pragmatics,it is expected to help the target language readers to fully and vividly obtain the knowledge and information and understand the original style of the source language text at the same time.
