With the development of modern science and technology,the communication between scholars home and abroad is becoming closer and closer.Chinese scholars have made significant achievements in applied linguistics.As more and more scholars,teachers and students are engaging in applied linguistic researches,so the demand for applied linguistic materials is also increasing.Scholars from abroad also have different researches in applied linguistics.If their achievements are introduced into China,it will provide more references for Chinese scholars.The report which includes two academic papers is excerpted from Annual Review of Applied Linguistics(2015),totaling about 14085 words.Under the guidance of Newmark's text typology theory,following the translation strategies of communicative translation and semantic translation,the translator analyzes source texts from lexical,syntactic and textual levels,and uses several translation methods like literal translation,transliteration and omission,which aiming at providing information of source texts for researchers.The report includes five parts.The first part is introduction,which mainly describes the significance and necessity of the applied linguistics research.The second part is task description,which analyzes features of text type,lexicon,syntax and introduces the requirements for the translation practice.Before translation,while translation and after translation are presented in the third part.The translator mainly introduces background,tools and terminologies before translation.While translation is about quality control and the detailed translation process.And the evaluation from peers and the translator herself is included after translation.The fourth part is the case analysis.The translator analyzes problems of the translation in three levels: lexical,syntactical and textual levels.So many translating methods,complying with conversion,preposition and postposition,amplification,omission as well as division and restructuring sentences,are used to solve practical problems in the process of translation.In the last part is conclusion,the translator makes a summary on unsolved problems and attains inspiration for the future work.
