This report is based on the English-Chinese translation project of What You Need to Know Before You Travel to Belgium. In 2017,Fiberead,an online publisher, initiated this project and the translator was authorized to finish translating alone. The source text(ST)belongs to tourist text and it is strongly purposeful and functional.Skopos Theory holds that a translational action is determined by its Skopos and promotes that tourist text translation should achieve two main text functions: to deliver information and to evoke action.Skopos Theory provides theoretical guidance for the translator to adopt flexible translation strategies. And this translation practice in turn proves that Skopos Theory can give good guidance to tourist text translation. This report consists of four chapters.Chapter One is a brief description to the project, including the background of this project, the requirements for this project and the introduction to the ST.Chapter Two deals with process description,in which pre-translation preparations, translation process and difficulties encountered are described.Chapter Three, the major part of this report,is theoretical framework and case analysis. At first,it generally introduces the four stages of Skopos Theory and its three principles, and then further explains its enlightenment for this tourist text translation.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory, directing at translation difficulties, the author of this report illustrates translation strategies adopted, that is,transliteration and semantic translation of proper nouns, annotation to culture-loaded words, adjustment of sentence structure, shift of perspective and conversion of “specification” to “abstraction”.The last chapter is conclusion which summarizes the translator's gains from this translation practice.
