The thesis is about a report on the translation of the chapter eight of novel Unknown Soldiers. The author,Vaino Linna, was one of the most famous and influential Finish writers of the 20th century. The novel was based on the personal experience of Vaino Linna himself as an infantryman in the army during the Second World War.At that time, young people were recruited from all over Finland to form an assault row to fight against the aggression of the Soviet army. Many of the characters in the novel are based on real people in the army. The source language of the novel was Finnish, and then a Japanese writer translated it into English. The novel mainly describes a story that took place in a machine gun company in eastern Finland during the Winter War between Finland and the Soviet Union. After having been subjected to the baptism of the cruel war, these young warriors has changed a lot mentally. This translation report is based on the Text Typology Theory by Peter Newmark and it mainly focuses on the problems about language, text structure and culture difference encountered in the translation process. The translation process has four aspects,pre-translation analysis and preparation, first draft, revision and the final version.
