A Report On Translating Going Home

Novel translation belongs to literature translation,and can best represent literature translation.As an important medium of cultural communication among different countries,the importance of novel translation is self-evident.Since the reform and opening up,in order to introduce the rich and colorful foreign culture and to integrate into this constantly changing world of different cultures,our country has witnessed the second peak of literature translation since the May 4th Movement.As an intercultural activity,translation has made tremendous contributions to our country's“bringing in”and "going out "policy in literature.Going Home is a story based on real historical materials,which uses the American Civil War as the background.It is a very good source for us to understand the history of the American Civil War.Therefore,in combination with the author's translation practice and previous reading experiences,it is hoped that readers in China can better understand the American Civil War and the beauty of English and American culture,so that mutual understanding and collision between different cultures can be promoted and intercultural exchange can be achieved.In combination with previous research results,based on the author's translation practice,this thesis explores functional equivalence between English and Chinese from the three aspects of vocabulary,sentence and passage,using Nida's functional equivalence theory as the guiding theory.The thesis includes specific examples in these three aspects to explore how English and Chinese achieve functional equivalence and how the readers of the source language and the target language can get infinitely close cultural experiences.The main purpose of this translation activity is to explore how translation theories are combined with translation practice and how appropriate translation skills are applied to translation practice in the translation process.I hope to provide some references and inspiration for translators in the future.
