A Report On News Transediting For Goyow.com From August 2015 To June 2016

News is a window for people to understand the world.At present,English is the working language for most international news coverage.News translation is needed to understand the latest world current events.In the information explosion era,we are exposed to glut of information.Accordingly,news transediting,employing methods to select and reorganize core information to gratify specific readership,has become increasingly important.However,as news transediting involves translation techniques,editing techniques,and relevant specific knowledge,it has not gotten sufficient attention from the fields of journalism and translation studies.Therefore,the study of news transediting is necessary and important.This paper is based on the translator's transediting task for Goyow.com from August 2015 to June 2016.With Huang Zhonglian's translation variation theory as guidance and the requirements of Goyow.com,this paper explores how to transedit news from English to Chinese.The translator summarizes three news transediting methods.First,explanatory transediting.Background information is added to eliminate understanding barrier caused by cultural differences.Second,reorganized transediting.News theme is highlighted by means of reorganizing textual information.Third,abridged transediting.Unnecessary information is deleted to retain the main information of the original text and guarantee the coherence and conciseness of the transedited version.By analyzing this news transediting task,the translator draws the conclusion that transeditors should have a clear understanding of the characteristics and requirements of news,news translation,and news transediting if he or she wants to be a good news transeditor.In addition,tanseditors should take into account the cultural differences and adopt the corresponding methods to cater to readers' reading habits and to meet the requirements of the news website.Based on the summary and reflections of this news transediting task,this paper aims to provide useful reference to news transeditors.
