A Report On The C-E News Transediting Internship At Newsgd.com

The author took a three-month internship at Newsgd.com from July to September in 2019,and transedited a total of 64 news articles including Chinese news,recordings of interviews and some videos.The report,on the basis of the internship,introduces the Newsgd.com,responsibilities of a transeditor at Newsgd.com,transediting process and quality control.Based on the theoretical framework of Eco-translatalogy,the report discusses the C-E news transediting at Newsgd.com.The text features of the original texts are first summarized,including the use of political discourse with Chinese characteristics,newborn terms,the emphasis of government officials in headlines,the use of(in)direct speech,active voice and subheadings,etc.The report also analyzes the adaptive selection of transediting with specific examples,and puts forward corresponding translation techniques from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions.To be specific,in the linguistic dimension,the adaptive selections such as addition,omission,imitation,free translation and transformation can be conducive to the translation of political discourse with Chinese characteristics,newborn terms,headlines,(in)direct speech,and active sentences.In terms of the adaptive selections in cultural dimension,literal translation and free translation can be respectively applied to cultural equivalence and cultural differences.As for the adaptive selections in communicative dimension,the problems of information shortage,information redundancy and information visualization can be solved through addition,omission and transformation.Through the internship,the author hopes to improve her skills in translation,especially in news transediting,so as to pave the way for her future career.Meanwhile,it is also hoped that the report can provide some reference for news translators and students in relevant majors.
