A Reflective Report Of Whisper Interpreting Of The Speech Entitled "Achievements And Problems In The Development Of China's Economy"

The author serves as a whisper simultaneous interpreter for two overseas researchers on Professor Wang Tongsan's lecture entitled“Achievements and Problems in the Development of China's Economy”in Jilin University Quantitative Economics Research Seminar on July 7^th,2017.Based on the Chinese Government Report,Professor Wang Tongsan's lecture is an analysis of Chinese current economic situation and its future which draws enthusiastic responses from the attendees.While exercising and improving herself,the author also encounters some problems during the interpretation.Therefore,the author transcribes the recording of the lecture as well as that of the interpreting,analyzes the transcription and then writes this reflective report.Through analyzing the transferred text,looking up references and summarizing the clients'feedback,the author puts emphasis on three major problems of the interpretation,including information loss,figure misinterpreting and fragmented sentences.The author explores the causes through specific examples and works out corresponding strategies,including the application of related tactics of Gile's Effort Model,use of formulas and combination of transliteration and liberal translation to solve the problems.By writing this report,the author wishes to provide a valuable reference for other interpreters and help them solve similar problems during interpreting.
