This report is based on the author's simultaneous interpreting at the 2017 Annual Conference of the Northeast Asia International Language and Culture Research Base.The author served as an interpreter for the opening speech and academic lecture of Professor Xiu Gang,who works as the Deputy Director of the Foreign Language Literature Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education,and the Principal of Tianjin Foreign Studies University.The report was concluded by the author after analyzing the recording and the transcript.Based on the audience's evaluation and the author's self-reflection,both merits and problems in the simultaneous interpreting were analyzed,and solutions were put forward.There are three parts in this report.A brief introduction is made to the background information and requirements of the task.Then the overall interpreting process is described,including the pre-interpreting preparation,the on-site process,as well as the post-interpreting assessment.The main part of the report analyzes three main problems in interpretation: information loss,misinterpretation and improper pauses.Then solutions are provided respectively according to different causes,such as anticipation,deverbalization,segmentation and so on.This practice offers the author a clearer mind on her deficiencies in interpreting.Moreover,she hopes the experience can be helpful for other simultaneous interpreters.
