The concept of guided learning plan was first adopted in Jinhua No.1 Senior High School in 1997.It was compelling at the very beginning, and many teachers and school leaders spent their time in exploring this new teaching mode.Zheng Jiling(2011)stated that guided learning plan was an auxiliary scheme which guided students to do autonomous learning.Nowadays, guided learning plan has become very popular all over the country. However, there are limitations in the process of designing guided learning plan, among which the most obvious one is the lack of theoretical basis.Although some scholars try to explore guided learning plan by applying humanism and constructivism, they are not specific enough to guide the real situation.Instead, scaffolding can well match with the application of guided learning plan.Scaffolding instruction is a derivation of constructivism and the zone of of proximal development, which has been applied to Western education for many years. The general stages of scaffolding include setting up situations, independent exploration, cooperative learning, setting up a scaffold and evaluation. In practice, guided learning plan also involves the ability development of cooperation, exploration, observation, and evaluation. Thus this thesis tries to apply scaffolding instruction to guided learning plan in primary English class and tries to answer the following questions:(1)What are the changes in teachers' attitudes after the application of guided learning plan based on scaffolding?(2)How does the application of scaffolding in guided learning plan influence students' comprehensive learning ability development?(3)What effects does guided learning plan based on scaffolding have on students' learning efficiency?Through analyzing the collected data, this thesis has the following findings:(1)after the application of guided learning plan based on scaffolding, teachers' attitudes change from negative to positive.(2)students' comprehensive learning ability further developed.(3)guided learning plan based on scaffolding help students improve their English efficiency. In short, the present study suggests that guided learning plan based on scaffolding has a significant positive impact on primary English class. This thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter one is introduction, including research background, significance and structure of the thesis.Chapter two reviews the researches on guided learning plan and scaffolding. The theoretical frameworks are also discussed in this chapter.Chapter three mainly talks about research methodology.Chapter four discusses the results through analyzing the statistics derived from instruments.Chapter five draws a conclusion of the study, which includes the major findings, limitations of the study, and suggestions for the future study.
