A Report On Translation Of Tourism Text From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

In recent years,with the further development of China's reform and opening up,more and more foreign people begin to focus on China.Chinese culture has also received a lot of attention from Westerners.As one of the first officially recognized historical and cultural cities,Zunyi,a city in Guizhou Province,has many world-level cultural heritage sites.The English translation of tourism texts about Guizhou plays an essential part in the spreading of the culture of Guizhou.Functionalist Skopos Theory(“Skopos Theory” for short)is one of the important theories in translation.Based on the theory,the translator should adopt translation strategies relevant to his/her purpose,and modify or adjust the source text,so as to bridge up the gap between the source and target language.This thesis is a report on the translation study of Guizhou Tourism: Development and Practice(Chapter 2)by Yangming and Wang Shizuo directed by the Skopos Theory.The significance of the Skopos Theory in the English translation of tourism texts is examined.This study has found that the Skopos Theory is applicable to the English translation of tourism texts.The translator should adopt various strategies to improve the acceptability of the translation.For tourism texts rich in intangible cultural message,the translator should reveal the cultural information in addition to accurately delivering the original meaning of the source text,so as to attract the readers to visit the tourism sites.
