A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Handbook For Foreign Teachers In China

The project report is based on the C-E translation of Handbook for Foreign Teachers in China.This project aims at summarizing the issues and difficulties during translation.At the same time,the project reporter offers solutions to optimize the target text under relevant translation theory.The target audience for Handbook for Foreign Teachers in China are foreign teachers.The purpose of the text is introducing China's basic information,educational system,and policies governing foreigners in China.This text focuses on introducing China to the outside world;thus,it belongs to publicity text.According to the definition of Newmark's text type theory,such handbooks belong to informative text.In order to follow the ideas of source text and make it more natural,the translator can restructure the target text and even omit some parts.As the target text has its publicity purpose,the project reporter chose skopos theory as a guiding translation theory.The project reporter uses amplification,omission and conversion for solving lexical problems.As to the four-character structure which is unique in Chinese,the project reporter puts forward solutions like amplification,parallelism,etc.Inversion,change of voice and "de(?),structure as post-positive modifier are used for tackling syntactic difficulties.The project reporter has learned the classification of texts,relevant translation theories and translation techniques during the writing process of the project report.Besides,the project reporter has concluded difficulties in publicity texts,and hopes to guide the translation of relevant texts.
