Abstract/Summary:
It is an English-Chinese translation report.Based on the main challenges met during the travelogue(Ganga:A Journey down the Ganges River)translation,it aims to discuss the translation methods and techniques used in translating verbs, adjectives, common nouns and proper nouns(here refer to Sanskrit proper nouns and the names of persons and places).Accordingly,it selects and discusses some typical examples. The report briefly describes the significance and the whole process, including pre-translation,decoding and recoding in while-translation,and revision in post-translation,of the translation practice. Then comes the most important part,Chapter 3.First,it discusses the translation techniques employed, namely, conversion(compulsory&optional)and extension(from the general to the specific&from the specific to the general)in translating some verbs, adjectives and common nouns.Second,it analyzes the translation methods of transliteration and liberal translation in translating proper nouns. Finally,it is found that the difficulties of translating content words in travelogue can be ideally solved by adopting the translation techniques of conversion and extension as well as the translation methods of transliteration and liberal translation. It is hoped that future translators may get some hints from this report and contribute to the translation of English content words, especially the translation of Sanskrit proper nouns.
