The text for this translation report is selected from the first and second chapters of Time to Let Go written by Christoph Fischer,a German-born British writer. This novel not only scrutinizes family dynamics and human nature in crisis with concise language and vivid story, but also involves the relevant knowledge of Alzheime's disease. The reason for choosing Time to Let Go as the original text to be translated is that it has no Chinese version yet.Based on the completed translation of the first two chapters, this report probes into translation difficulties and methods, aiming to improve translation level and provide some references and appreciation for later translation work. This translation practice report describes three stages, including preparations before translation, translating process, and proofreading. From the aspects of words, sentences and dialogues, the report expounds the difficulties in translating process, such as word class, polysemy words, attributive clauses, long and complex sentences, characters' personalities and characters' roles. The report also illuminates the translation methods corresponding to translation difficulties by analyzing concrete cases, including conversion, choice of words' meaning, combination, division, amplification and the choice of appellation.Furthermore, this practice report sums up translation difficulties and methods to draw lessons from this translation experience, which are as follows:(1)Translators should fully understand the culture and pathological manifestations of Alzheimer's disease in the original text to enrich knowledge.(2)Translators need to have a rigorous academic attitude and master translation skills adroitly.(3)Translators should strengthen the study of English-Chinese translation, improve professional skills, and enhance self-ability constantly in future practices.
