Report On English Translation Of Huozhe

Translation is a significant way for different cultures to communicate with each other.As Chinese economy and politics are blossoming,Chinese culture accelerates her pace to be widely introduced to the outside world.In order to response to the trend of Chinese culture going global,a new mission comes for translators,that is,to translate increasingly works with Chinese characteristics into English so as to provide a window for outside world to better know about China.Huozhe describes the whole life of Xu Fugui,the main character.The impact and changes happening to him is brought by social vicissitudes in China.The objective of this translation practice report is the sixth chapter of Huozhe.In this report,the author summarizes and concludes the difficulties met and translation methods employed during translation process.This report makes an overall introduction from the following aspects:the brief introduction of the research,the translation process and case analysis.Specifically,the report first introduces the background of the selection of translation material and then introduces translation process:to analyze the theme and style of the original text as well as difficulties in translation and corresponding solutions.At last,the report selects some representative cases to summarize and analyze the practical methods the author employed from the following three aspects:Chinese culture-loaded words,Chinese run-on sentences and dialogues.For Chinese culture-loaded words,the author mainly takes liberal translation,transliteration plus annotation and literal translation plus annotation as translation methods;for Chinese run-on sentences,the author analyzes from underlying logical relationships and then adopt four translation skills:linear translation,consolidation,disconnection and reorganization.As to translating dialogues in this novel,the author concludes from three points of how to coincide with the character's identity,with the features of colloquial language and with the special novel theme.The concluding and summarizing of difficulties met in the process of translation as well as the analyzing of translation examples chosen by the author all can be taken as references in the translation of Chinese literature works.
