Research On LiShangyin's Epistolary Essays

Li Shangyin was an outstanding poet and essayist of the late Tang Dynasty.His letter writings play an important role in his literary creation.Li Shangyin has 69 pieces of epistles,including 66 pieces of parallel prose and 3 pieces of prose.Based on his pursuit of official career,of dream,and of the realization of personal ambition,these works reflect Li Shangyin's analysis of the political situation,his interaction with politicians,his record to the life of the state office of the ancient general and the change of personal mind.Li Shangyin's letter writings have made great art achievements with such distinctive artistic features as the combination of the parallel prose and the essay of the orderly antithesis,the appropriate allusions and the emotion into the articles with deep artistic image.Based on Li Shangyin's poems and proses and historical documentsin in the Tang Dynasty,we use the method of literature synthesis and historical reduction to examine the hiatorical value of Li Shangyin's epistles.This paper,taking the history of the late Tang Dynasty as the background,finds out twenty historical figures from Li Shangyin's epistles.By analyzing the relationship between Li Shangyin and them,we can see that Li Shangyin has a strong desire for progress,progressive political ideals and a tragic split character between the parties.The epistles of Li Shangyin from the contect is divided into nine categpries,through careful reading,exploring Li Shangyin's poverty and wandering life.From the subjective reasons,this paper analyzes the fate of Li Shangyin as a fighter for survival in the gap between the two parties,and make a new explanation for this.This paper is divided in six parts,that is,the introduction and the five chapter of the text.The introduction briefly introduce the research status of Li Shangyin's article and explain the research object,method and innovation point of this paper.the first chapter expounds the concept of epistle,reviews the development history of epistolary essays in ancient China and introduces the creation overview of Li Shangyin's epistle on the basis of the social history background of the late Tang Dynasty when Li Shangyin lived.The second chapter analyzes such four types of figures involved in Li Shangyin's epistle bureaucrats,the master of the place where the old generals work,relatives and literary friends.Through the investigation of Li Shangyin' intercourse with them,it can be seen that Li Shangyin is affected by these people's thought,political view and party affiliation,and his complicated heart is pried into.The third chapter and the fourth chapter analyze the contents of epistle,allusions,expression patterns and emotional characteristics and unscramble the value of historical documents on the basis of representative works of such nine types of Li Shangyin's epistle as lyric,thankfulness,request,congratulation,art,contribution,entrust,poem and satire on society.The fifth chapter probes into the artistic characteristics of Li Shangyin's epistle and demonstrate the profound artistic attainments of Li Shangyin's epistle with the combination of the parallel prose and the essay on the basis of the three aspect of antithesis,allusions and poetic context.
