Simultaneous interpreting,as a communication medium, plays a significant role in international scientific and cultural exchanges.Due to the unique characteristics and challenges, how interpreters can distribute effort rationally and adopt interpreting tactics skillfully is a question worth conducting research on.Based on Gile's Effort Model, this thesis uses the case material of the 2017 Google I/O Conference and analyzes the interpreting challenges and tactics from three aspects: comprehension, memory, and production.Challenges for comprehension in simultaneous interpretation of technical conference include signal vulnerability and unfamiliar names;challenges for memory include high-rate of delivery and high-density of information;and challenges for production include terminology and syntactic difference between the source language and the target language. In terms of the difficulties, the thesis analyzes the coping tactics for simultaneous interpretation of technical conference.Comprehension tactics include information reconstruction and replacement;preventive tactics include omission and reproduction;reformulation tactics include syntactic linearity. It is suggested that Gile' s Effort Model is of great significance to interpreting practice. In simultaneous interpreting of technical speech, interpreters can adopt relevant interpreting tactics accordingly to achieve a great interpreting performance.By overcoming the difficulties and mastering the interpreting tactics discussed in the thesis,it is hoped that interpreters and interpretation learners can apply the strategies automatically and skillfully so as to achieve the most desirable effect.
