This is a report on translation of Promised Land,Crusader State(Chapter Seven). The book describes the evolution of America's early foreign policy and its significant influence on international community's decision making from the perspective of political science and history.Chapter Seven mainly gives an account of the causes and effects of America's containment against Soviet Union after World War II.The report is based on the translation theory,Typology Theory, advocated by Peter Newmark.According to the Typology Theory, most content of the book,Promised Land,Crusader State, can be classified as informative text while a fraction of it as expressive text. Thus communicative translation and semantic translation strategies are adopted respectively.Specific translation techniques that are applied in the whole translation process are mainly embodied at four levels, namely lexical level, syntactic level, textual level and cultural level. The report consists of five chapters such as introduction to the translation project, the process of translation, the theoretical framework, case analysis and the conclusion. In chapter four, translation skills applied during the translation practice are fully expounded with related cases accompanied. Those mentioned translation skills include amplification, extension of the meaning, conversion, liberal translation, the translation of polysemy, inversion, division and recombination. This report on translation shows that translation theory plays a significant role in guiding translation practice. It is hoped that the translator could have a better understanding about translation theory and translation skill through the translation practice of Promised Land,Crusader State.
