This thesis is a practice report of an English to Chinese consecutive interpreting. The author completed the consecutive interpreting of a lecture entitled Thriving as a Minority in a Multicultural Workplace in April 2021.The speaker is of Indian origin and has an Indian accent, making it difficult to understand. It is challenging for the author to coordinate the effort among listening,note-taking and short-term memory, which causes some mistakes in interpreting such as omissions and misinterpreting. The author finds out the comprehension equation and Effort Model proposed by Gile in his monograph Basic Concepts and Models for Interpreter and Translator Training provide an operational model for this problem.Combining Gile’s comprehension equation and Effort Model with the practice of consecutive interpreting, this thesis analyzes the specific problems of effort model in the process of interpreting, which is mainly reflected in the following aspects: inadequacy of linguistic and extra-linguist ability, coordination, and production ability. In response to the above problems, the thesis tries to explore the solutions such as preparation beforehand, accumulation of linguistic and extra-linguistic knowledge, coordination between listening and note-taking,short-term memory and listening, and improvement of output ability. Finally, the thesis summarizes the interpreting practice and puts forward prospects and suggestions for the future. It is hoped that this practice report will be beneficial for interpreters in producing highquality target language in the process of interpreting practice and providing references for similar consecutive interpreting tasks.
