This is a survey report on the motivation and experience of the first-year MI students from four universities in Xi'an.Data regarding students' study motivation, experience at the end of the first semester and factors that affect their experience are collected via questionnaire.SPSS is applied in data analysis. The report offers a detailed description of the survey, including sample selection, questionnaire construction and administration, data collection, data process and analysis.Based on statistic analysis, crosstables analysis, and correlation analysis, the report draws four conclusions:(1)The major motivation of the MI students in Xi'an is intrinsic motivation.“I want to master a new skill”,“I want to improve my English”,“I am interested in interpreting”,“Interpreting gives me a sense of achievement” and“I like to helping others communicate” are the five main intrinsic motivations of the students. The result indicates that now students value more about the applicability of interpreting skills.(2)The overall experience of the MI students at the end of the first semester falls short of their expectation, but the percentage of these students is lower than that in the GUFS study, while the percentage of those who think their experience exceeds expectation is higher than that of the GUFS study.(3)MI student's intrinsic motivation and experience is related but not significant.(4)Besides intrinsic motivation, teaching quality, facilities and curriculum are the main factors affecting students' experience.
