A Report On The Excerpt Translation Of Green Plastics

With rapid development in science and technology,scientific and technological exchanges with other nations have been on the rise.Translation of scientific and technological texts serves as the indispensable means of scientific exchanges among nations.It is obvious that the science and technology translation is increasingly significant.Therefore,it is necessary to study the characteristics of popular sci-tech texts and their translation principles and techniques.Only in this way can we improve the quality of such translation.This translation report is based on the book of Green Plastics written from Stevens.When selecting proper translation strategies,the author took into consideration the communicative purpose of this paper,and attempted to act upon Peter Newmark’s theory of Communicative Translation,so as to ensure the fulfillment of informative function and communicative purpose.It is also necessary to study the application and guidance of this theory in translating sci-tech texts and to sum up the practical and concrete translating principles and techniques adopted in the progress of translation.This translation practice report consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.The second chapter elaborates on the preparation before translating,the translation process and the process of writing translation practice.The third chapter explores the stylistic features on texts of science and technology,stylistic features on source text,and their translation criteria.The fourth chapter,as the core of this report,which provides a detailed case study of the translation in the levels of words,sentences and text,aims to present corresponding translation strategies and techniques.The last chapter is the conclusion which concludes both findings and limits of this translation report.
