This is a report on the translation of The Teacher Wars: A History of America's Most Embattled Profession(“The Teacher Wars”).This book was written by Dana Goldstein, who is a reporter of New York Times and former staff writer at The Marshal Plan.Based on the experiences of its main characters,The Teacher Wars reviews some major events in the history of American Education over recent two centuries, and it plays an important role in studying both American education history and education theories of western countries.Such a great work deserves us to read, yet there is still no Chinese version since it was published in 2014.Therefore,the translator chooses Chapter 8 and 9 of this book as translation materials.During translating, under the guidance of Skopos theory, the translator employs some translation techniques which are proved to be useful at lexical level and syntactical level with full and accurate examples. This report consists of four chapters: chapter one is task description, including an introduction to the original work and the author, and the significance of the translation task;chapter two is process description, consisting of preparation,while-translating and proofreading;chapter three is the most important part of this report--case study,in which under the guidance of Skopos theory, several translation techniques such as transliteration, annotation, conversion of words, division, conversion of ingredients, and inversion are used to deal with various translation cases at lexical level and syntactical level;chapter four is the conclusion, which includes some major findings and limitations as well as suggestions for further study on translation.
