A Report On C-E Translation Of The Complex Sentence In Civil Engineering Research Paper

Based on 32 typical research papers of civil engineering in the translation practice of Shanghai Tongjing Translation Service Co.,Ltd.,the author classifies the complex sentence,analyzes the problems encountered in translation practice and puts forward the corresponding translation methods to solve these problems under the guidance of Newmark's text typology theory in this report.In the process of C-E translation of the complex sentence in the research paper of civil engineering,the following problems are often encountered.1)Because of featuring verb dominance,loose structure,and rich semantics,the coordinate complex sentences are difficult to be converted in the structure.2)With various modifiers and covert logic relations,the main-subordinate complex sentences are difficult to be transformed into English complex sentences.3)With complex components and diverse structure levels,the meaning of clauses in the multiple complex sentences are difficult to be transformed.The improper translation of Chinese complex sentences would be poorly readable and affect the overall communicative effect of scientific research papers in civil engineering.The text typology theory is of great theoretical significance to solving the translation problems of the complex sentence in the research paper of civil engineering.Guided by the strategies of semantic translation and communicative translation,the author attempts to discuss how to solve the problems encountered in the translation of the complex sentence.On this basis,the author tries to put forward corresponding translation methods such as linear translation,conversion,combination,division,adjustment of the order and integration method so as to make the translation conform to the structure of the source text as much as possible and enhance the communicative effects when the information of the source text is conveyed.
