This is a translation report on Universities,Employability and Human Development(Chapters 2-3)by Professor Melanie Walker and Samuel Fongwa both of whom are from South Africa. The book is quite formal and involves hot issues such as higher education, graduate employability and its influencing factors, mainly taking four universities in South Africa as examples.By translating some related chapters of this book, that the target readers can have a basic understanding of the education situation of other countries and various factors affecting graduate employability and initiatives they take to enhance graduate employability. The translation practice is under the guidance of Tytler's Three Principles of Translation,The translator summarizes the problems and difficulties while translating. Then multiple translation techniques, such as amplification, omission and division are applied to deliver the idea and reproduce the style of the original work, which also makes the translation fluent by dividing and reconstructing the sentences in the source text. The translation report consists of four parts.Part One is an introduction to the translation project and the source text,in which the translator introduces the background information about the translation project, the purpose and significance, and gives a brief introduction to the original authors and the source text as well.Part Two is about the translation difficulties and the whole translation process, which consists of pre-translation,in-translation and revision.Part Three is the case analysis. The translator,in this part, takes some typical sentences as examples to illustrate how the translation skills are employed in the translation process.Part Four is the conclusion, summarizing the experience and lessons learned from the project and problems to be solved.Through this translation practice, the translator has got a better understanding of the educational text, which would enhance his ability to translate this type of text and lay the foundation for future use.The translation involves initiatives foreign government officers take to enhance graduate employability. It may be referential to gain some insight into higher education in South Africa through this translation for domestic university administrators,policy-makers and educators.
