| The ability to understand the speaker quickly is essential to interpreters.But the co-relation between the how well the interpreter understands the speaker and how good the interpreter’s output is was often neglected.This paper takes mock conference— “Meeting with Peter Thiel” as an example,discussing missing interpretation and misinterpretation and how to solve them.In this thesis,the writer has classified interpretation and misinterpretation into four categories—no interpretation,missing details in interpretation,lack of accuracy and completeness in interpretation and distortion in interpretation.Then,these mistakes were compared with the reasons that caused them,which were classified into two categories: problems in online performance and problems due to offline factors.Problems in online performance include failure to balance note-taking and listening,failure to balance short-term memory and listening,and inaccuracy of listening.Problems due to offline factors include interference of anticipation and lack of knowledge in relevant field.Finally,the writer reached the conclusion that the reason that most likely to cause severe mistakes are offline factors.Based on that,the writer came up with solutions. |
