Since the ancient times, the Middle East region has been known for its superior geographical location and dazzling history. The mysterious continent is rich in oil resources and religious beliefs.Since modern times, there have been many wars caused by oil. After the Iraq war,the situation in the Middle East was greatly affected by the countries which are competing for oil. This is an English-Chinese translation project on The Iraq Effect:The Middle East after the Iraq War which was released by Rand Corporation in 2010.The report objectively analyzes the situation in the Middle East after the end of the Iraq war.China,Russia and other countries seized the opportunity to participate in the Middle East affairs. Many countries in the Middle East, such as Saudi Arabia,Iran and Iraq, have a long history of conflicts.Besides, many organizations(including a few terrorist organizations)are active in the Middle East. The chosen parts are summary and Chapter III of the source text. The translation project aims at offering new ideas through translating first-hand files. The supporting theory is Functional Equivalence Theory.Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory does not pursue literal translation. It emphasizes the adjustment of the translation and the adjustment of grammar, vocabulary and cultural reference to meet the language and cultural expectations of the target language readers. The author uses Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory and several translation strategies to make lexical and syntactic analyses.Through the translation practice report, the author found that before the translation, the understanding of the translation background and relevant information is crucial. The translation needs to be verified with the help of various resources and channels,so it is necessary to arrange the time of translation in advance.Meantime,it is hoped that the translation of this report can help some readers to have a deeper understanding of the outcome of the Iraq war and many opportunities and difficulties in the Middle East after the Iraq war.
