Interpreting can facilitate the communication of different parties who use diff-erent languages. As a form of interpreting, consecutive interpreting also plays an increasingly significant role.It is widely recognized among scholars and interpreters that interpreting is based on the understanding of the source text. However, different languages will not necessarily correspond with each other in vocabulary or linguistic structure in every aspect.Interpreters, therefore, can not always understand the source language accurately and thus produce unsatisfying interpreting, which would impede the communication between speakers and audience.Based on Gile's Interpreting Comprehension Equation, this thesis is a report on the author's field practice as a consecutive interpreter. It's aimed to analyze the errors on the practice from the perspectives of linguistic knowledge,extra-linguistic knowledge and analysis and a revised, hopefully, much improved version will be put forward. This paper finds that:linguistic knowledge is the basis of comprehension which would assist the interpreter better understand the speaker's vocabulary and accent;extra-linguistic language could help interpreters better grasp source text;analysis could render interpreters find the logical links and then predict the organization of source text. Then, some suggestions have been put forward to help interpreters better comprehend source language which require them to enlarge linguistic knowledge, extend extra-linguistic knowledge and apply analytical methods flexibly. With these techniques, interpreters would understand source language more accurately and render good interpreting.
