With the rise of China's international status in recent years,cooperation and exchanges,thanks to the support of Chinese government,are growing between Chinese colleges and universities as well as foreign ones.Aiming to make communication and cooperation among schools,interpretation of foreign affairs in universities sets high requirements for interpreters'skills and qualities because of the specialization of service object,content,site,etc.Therefore,it's of significance for interpreters to allocate attention well in a short time to complete tasks.Based on Effort Model put forward by the famous interpreting scholar Professor Gile,this thesis aims at dealing with problems that occurred because of imbalance of attention allocation in three phases,i.e.listening and analysis,short-term memory and production during interpreting operation and seeking for methods to improve the quality of interpretation of foreign affairs in universities.The corpus is from interpretation practice fulfilled by the author when Chinese and Indonesian Youth Exchange Group visited the university.The research shows that the interpreter should pay attention to information recognition and logic in listening and analysis phase,memorization of key information in short-term memory phase and focus on rigor of language in production phase.The author proposes relative strategies according to the three phases mentioned above in interpreting performance:cultivating the ability to produce rigorous words so as to accurately deliver the speaker's intention with appropriate words to the audience,and expanding knowledge about interpretation of foreign affairs in universities.The interpreter should also strengthen cross-cultural awareness and understand cultures of both sides so that cross-cultural communication barriers can be reduced,and the cooperation among universities will proceed smoothly.The author hopes to provide learning methods for interpretation learners and offer interpreters reference to improve the quality of interpretation of foreign affairs in universities.
