In this translation report, the author selects the first chapter to the third chapter of Introduction to Sociology, which writer is Japanese sociologists Mita Munesuke. The reason why author chosen to translate texts related to sociology is because the author has always been curious about sociology and wants to explore the social operation mode and the operation mode of independent individuals in society by reading sociological related works. In the book Introduction to Sociology, the author not only introduces the sociological phenomenon such as the change process of the mass psychology of Japanese society in theory, but also brings vivid and interesting personal experiences and stories, which makes readers close to Japanese society and more likely to produce resonance.Combined with the characteristics of this text, the author chooses Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation theory as the guiding theory of this translation practice. In view of the difficult sentences that appear in the course of practice, the author uses the above two theories to apply translation techniques and finally obtains the correct translation and organizes the analysis process into chapters for reference. This report consists of the following three chapters:the first chapter introduces the connotation of Newmark's translation theory, the characteristics of semantic translation and communicative translation, and the types of texts applicable to each theory, and analyzes the text content and characteristics. As a sociology book,Introduction to Sociology has a lot of professional knowledge and professional terms, and the readers of this book have also decided to this book has to be written in a simple writing style.Combined with the characteristics of the text, the author also analyzed the applicability and guidance of semantic translation and communicative translation for this translationThe main content of the second chapter is to analyze the examples of difficult sentences encountered in the translation practice.Specifically, under the guidance of semantic translation and communicative translation,it is a review and summary of why a certain translation technique is selected and the final translation is obtained. The first section analyzes the application of semantic translation theory in lexical translation and sentence translation.Introduction to Sociology has a large number of proprietary vocabularies.Under the guidance of semantic translation theory, the author adopts two methods of literal translation and addition,in order to reflect the author's thinking process and intention on the basis of retaining the original structure and form.In the second section, the author mainly discusses the application of other translation techniques in Chinese translation under the guidance of communicative translation theory.Communicative translation pays more attention to the response of the target language readers. There is no special requirement for the structure and form of the text. However, due to the different language and cultural backgrounds of China and Japan, the readers of China and Japan react differently to the text form,so in order to be more In accordance with the reading habits of Chinese readers, the author has flexibly adopted a variety of translation techniques in the process of translation. The third chapter mainly summarizes the author's re-recognition of Newmark's translation theory.Newmark's translation theory points out that the translator should choose the translation method that adapts to the text type according to different text types, that is,the text that requires the original form should adopt semantic translation theory to guide the practice;and the text that pays more attention to the reader's reaction. The strategy of communicative translation should be adopted to guide practice. This translation practice was completed under the guidance of Newmark's translation theory,so to a certain extent, the author's understanding of the Newmark's translation theory and the degree of its application also determine the completion of the Chinese translation of Introduction to Sociology.Of course,in the process of using this theory to guide translation practice, the author has further deepened the understanding of semantic translation and communicative translation theory.Combining the difficulties encountered by the author in this practice, the author realizes that the translator should flexibly choose translation methods and techniques based on the actual situation of the text and retain the essence of Newmark's theory to be better and more faithful. The ground conveys information to the target language reader. This kind of re-recognition is also very helpful for the author to organize and proofread the translation. In summary, the following conclusions can be drawn:First,as a guiding theory,Newmark's translation theory applies to the Chinese translation of the practical text Introduction to Sociology. The two translation theories, semantic translation and communicative translation, help the translator to grasp the translation direction as a whole and quickly adjust the translation method and translation strategy. This is also the starting point for the author to choose Newmark theory as the upper guiding theory. However, there is a limit to the applicability of Newmark's translation theory to the type of translated text:if a scientific text with narrative nature is difficult to simply categorize as a type of text, there is no direct translation method. Therefore,as a theoretical practitioner, the translator should adjust the translation method and translation strategy according to the characteristics of the text at any time, reflecting the characteristics of different texts.Second, translation activities are not a one-way language conversion, nor a simple language superposition. The translator's understanding of the social and cultural backgrounds of China and Japan, and the ability to grasp and use both languages will ultimately determine the translation.quality.For the translator, the tempering of the Chinese and Japanese bilingual language ability, especially the ability to express the native language,is not a slogan.Third, when translating texts with a background of professional knowledge, translators need to constantly improve their professional knowledge and maintain curiosity and exploration in related fields, which is a necessary condition for becoming a qualified translator.
