The Application Of Communicative Translation In The Translation Of Inspirational Text

With the case of What a Young Woman Ought to Know,this thesis mainly discusses the application of communicative translation method to the translation of inspirational text.What a Young Woman Ought to Know is an inspirational text,aiming to share life experience with and deliver the right values to the young women.It focuses on the readers and calls for them to act,think and feel,which coincides with the characteristics of the vocative text of Newmark's text typology.Communicative translation method addresses itself solely to the target readers and emphasizes the readability,which are conducive to transmitting the message of the original text to the target readers.This method gives translator the right to properly make adjustments and amendments due to the language differences between English and Chinese.The purpose to translate inspirational text is to deliver beneficial knowledge to the target readers and encourage them.By the guidance of communicative translation method,the target language will more conform to its corresponding language norms,be more natural and fluent while reading,and therefore the target readers can obtain the reading experience as same as possible with the source readers.Hence,the translator mainly applies communicative translation method to this translation practice in the levels of words,sentences and the discourse with the consideration of the translation purpose,text type and the readership so as to improve the readability of the translation and enhance the overall communicative effect.The translation strategies such as amplification,adjustment of the word order and omission are used,and the cohesion and the coherence modes are also properly reconstructed.
