As e-commerce has turned into a crucial step in the transformation of small and medium-sized businesses in China at a time of economic globalization,there is an increasing need for interpreting.The simultaneous interpreting of e-commerce activities,nevertheless,hasn’t received enough attention from researchers or from the general public.Based on an analysis of the mock simultaneous interpreting of the Lecture on Live Streaming E-commerce and New Media Operations,this report is aimed to find the challenges in the mock simultaneous interpreting,and hopefully propose corresponding solutions.With Gile’s Effort Model as a guiding theory,this report mainly applies some common methods like the literature survey and case study.The report is separated into several segments that address respectively the background of mock SI research,theoretical framework,research process,and a case study.Three MTI students were invited to play the role of audiences and give their evaluations respectively.The major challenges of the task are information density,numbers interpreting,and the uncoordinated allocation of energy among such three aspects as listening and analyzing,short-term memory,and speech production.Interpreting skills,such as linearity,simplification,omission,generalization,and anticipation are employed to cope with difficulties encountered during the mock interpreting process.Through the case study,the author discovers that the major problems arising in the interpretation process like the lack of fluency in production,slips of the tongue,misinterpretation,and omission of key information,are largely caused by the uncoordinated allocation of energy,as for which the author suggests the solutions respectively according to causing factors.In order to enhance the listening and analyzing abilities,interpreters should prepare customized vocabulary lists for various interpreting assignments,and get familiar with the pronunciation of essential terms in everyday practice and work,and assimilate their background knowledge by reading widely and listening to podcasts.Moreover,strategies like anticipation can be used when struggling with listening and analyzing.As information density and numbers interpretation add to the short-term memory load,interpreters are encouraged increase the usage of linearity,generalization,simplification,and omission approaches to lighten such burden.In terms of speech production,interpreters may control the speed of interpretation,moderately prolong the ear-voice-span,become more adept at multitasking,increase the accumulation of background information,and sharpen the impromptu speaking abilities.The paper is intended to introduce this form of interpreting to more individuals and serve as a resource for interpreting students and professionals.
