This translation practice report is based on the translation of seven chapters-chapter six to twelve of the novel Sad Girls by Lang Leav, the Zelanian well-known best-selling author in the 21st century. This is a story about how a rumor ruins the life of girls concerned in this novel.Chapter six to twelve mainly develop the plot that Anna could not bear the verbal violence on herself and chose suicide to end her young life. However, the rumormongers Audrey,Candela, and Lucy all live under great mental stress and fear every day. This novel not only reflects the cruelty of verbal violence by the suffering of the victim, but also warns people to reject verbal violence through the description of the psychological changes of the rumormongers. This report specifically discusses how to solve the key problems of vocabulary and long sentences in translation practice under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory.Translation is reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source-language message, first in terms of meaning, and secondly in terms of style.Functional equivalence theory requires the translator not only to consider the equivalence in content, but also to convey it in natural language as far as possible. In addition, the readers of the target language play an important role in the translation process.Under the guidance of functional equivalence, the author adopts specific translation techniques such as amplification, conversion and division so as to make the readers of the target language gain the same response as the readers of the source language.Through this translation practice and translation practice report, the author gains the following enlightenments.First, great importance should be attached to the guiding role of translation theory in translation practice.Second, translator should fully comprehend the cultural connotation of English-speaking countries to ensure the accuracy of cultural information translation.Thirdly, proofreading is an important step to improve the quality of translation.
