Study On The Relationship Among Alexithymia,Self-focused Attention And Nomophobia Of College Students

In order to understand the mechanism of the nomophobia,this study translated and revised the Nomophobia Questionnaire(NMP-Q),and investigated 512 college students by using Toronto Alexithymia Scale(TAS-20),Self-Consciousness Scale(SCS)and the revised NMP-Q to discuss the general present situation and characteristics of the nomophobia of the college students,then explore the relationship among alexithymia,self-focused attention and nomophobia.The study aims to provide scientific evidence for improving college students'smartphone usage.The main results of this study are as follows:(1)The reliability and validity of the revised scale is acceptable,which can measure the nomophobia availably.There are totally 19 items in the "Nomophobia Questionnaire",including four dimensions:not being able to communicate,losing connectedness,not being able to access information and giving up convenience.(2)In this study,the smartphone ownership rate of college students was as high as 98%,the most frequently used functions for smartphone was basic functions like conversation,sending and receiving messages.80.1%of the students used the smartphone more than 5 hours every day,24.6%students used the smartphone more than 10 hours every day.The average score of nomophobia of 512 college students is 54.69,which was in the moderate level of nomophobia.Among them,the number of college students who had slight nomophobia accounted for 8.2%of the total number of surveyed people,the moderate accounted for 64.3%and the serious nomophobia accounted for 27.5%of the survey.In terms of demographic variables,nomophobia total scores have significant differences in gender,but no significant difference among grades.Each dimension of nomophobia and the nomophobia total scores have significant differences on the time of smartphone using.Except for college students who use smartphones less than an hour,the longer time the college students use smartphones,the high nomophobia will be felt.(3)There was a significant positive correlation between alexithymia and nomophobia,and there was a significant positive correlation between dimensions of alexithymia and nomophobia.Difficulty in identifying feelings(DIF)had significant predictive positive effects on nomophobia,difficulty in describing feelings(DDF)had significant predictive negative effects on nomophobia.(4)There was a significant positive correlation between alexithymia and public self-focused attention,and a negative correlation between alexithymia and private self-focused attention.Except for the externally orientated thinking(EOT),alexithymia and its dimensions were positively correlated with public self-focused attention,and showed a significant negative correlation with private self-focused attention;alexithymia and its dimensions were all positively correlated with social anxiety.Difficulty in identifying feelings(DIF)had significant predictive positive effects on public self-focused attention,externally orientated thinking(EOT)had significant predictive negative effects on public and private self-focused attention.(5)There was a significant positive correlation between self-focused attention and nomophobia of college students.Public self-focused attention,social anxiety showed a positive correlation with nomophobia.Private self-focused attention were positively correlated with not being able to communicate.The public self-focused attention had significant predictive positive effects on nomophobia,private self-focused attention had significant predictive negative effects on nomophobia.(6)Public self-focused attention partially mediated the relationship between alexithymia and nomophobia,and the mediating effect is positive;private self-focused attention partially mediated the relationship between alexithymia and nomophobia,and the mediating effect is negative;the multiple mediating model showed that the total effects of public and private self-focused attention were significant,of whih only the positive effect of public self-focused attention was significant.
