A Report On Translating Bilingualism And Cognitive Control (Chapter Five&Six)

The translation report is based on the translation of the source text excerpted from Bilingualism and Cognitive Control authored by Ramesh Kumar Mishra.The source book focuses on the theme of bilingualism,its practice and its possible cognitive consequences.It explores the various theoretical issues related to the question of cognitive advantage of being bilingual.In order to make the readers have a general understanding of neuroscience of bilingualism and the influence of context on bilingual language and cognitive processing,the translator selects Chapter Five and Chapter Six of the book for translation.It is hoped that the target text be able to help foreign language learners and teachers to have a deeper understanding of the bilingual brain and the application of bilingualism in real communication situations,and on this basis,ameliorate foreign language learning and teaching,improve foreign language learning efficiency,and create a new situation of foreign language learning.In addition,the target text will shed some new light on the research of bilingualism and cognition in Chinese context.In the process of translation,the translator adopts the functional equivalence theory,domestication and foreignization strategies,and transliteration,transliteration with annotation,literal translation and free translation methods to treat the source text.In this translating project,the translator overcomes some difficulties in translation,such as the translation of technical terms,unity of language styles,and long and complex sentences.The translation report consists of four chapters.Chapter One is mainly about the background of the translation task and the source text,analyzing the purposes and significance of this task.Chapter Two gives an overview of the translating process,including pre-translating,selecting the theoretical basis of this translation practice,namely the theory of functional equivalence,translation strategies,while-translating,and post-translating.Chapter Three analyzes the difficulties in this translation task and the translation approaches applied to solve these difficulties.Chapter Four makes a summary of the translation task,briefly explaining the translator's gains and problems to be solved.
