The material for this simulated interpreting is a lecture in popular science given by Philip Rushton,a famous professor of the University of Western Ontario,at the 7~thh sharing session of the American Renaissance magazine.The lecture is lively and rigorous,including results of research and future development directions of sociobiology,as well as the wonderful question and answer session between Professor Philip and the audience.The practice report analyzes and summarizes different types of inserted components and the corresponding solutions through case study.As for apposition,interpretation strategies such as addition and combination can be adopted.As for parentheses,strategies such as adaptation interpretation and explanatory interpretation are usually chosen to convey meanings.As for modifying inserted components,strategies such as reduction and combination are mainly applied.Hopefully this practice report can help to popularize basic knowledge of sociobiology and can provide a reference for popular-science interpreting practice so as to improve quality and efficiency in interpretation.
