An English-Chinese Translation Report On No Hero:the Evolution Of A Navy Seal(Chapters 4-5)

This is an English-Chinese translation report on a military text,No Hero: The Evolution of a Navy SEAL.The translator selected Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 from it.The book narrates the personal struggles and hardships of the Navy SEALs in their operations,as well as the lessons and personal growth they learned from these difficulties.It is,actually,an instructive and inspirational text to a great number of readers living an ordinary life.This report starts with a brief description of the background,the objective,the significance,and the structure of the translation task,and then provides an introduction of the source text and the author along with the translation tools applied.The report puts emphasis on the difficulties encountered in the translation process and corresponding translation methods coupled with case analysis on the basis of language features of the source text.The translation methods are proposed from two levels.At the lexical level,annotation,extension of word meaning,conversion of word class,and application of four-character phrases are employed.At the syntactic level,hysteron-proteron,fusion,amplification and transferred negation are used.The flexible translation methods are applied to the translation so as to be loyal to the source text and produce smooth and fluent version without apparent translationese by following translation criteria.Finally,the translation experience and some problems or deficiencies gained from the translation report are summarized.By working on the translation report,the translator aims to reproduce the style of the source text and convey the exact meaning to the target readers.It turned out that the translator should focus on improving the capabilities in understanding and analyzing the source text during the translation.Thus,the acceptability and readability of the translation can be achieved.
