At present,China is vigorously developing vocational education.In higher vocational education,English curriculum runs through it all the time,and English ability is an important part of students' cultivation in higher vocational education.Effective English classroom teaching plays an important role in improving higher vocational students' English ability.Under the background of the shortage of international nurses,it is an indispensable part of higher vocational education to train nurses who can be with good English ability.Effective teaching originated in the 1920 s.At present,there are a lot of studies on effective teaching both at home and abroad.Foreign studies on effective teaching mainly involve the characteristics and qualities of effective teaching teachers,the connotation and characteristics of effective teaching,effective teaching behavior and strategies,and effective teaching evaluation.Domestic studies on effective teaching mainly involve the connotation,characteristics,influencing factors and Strategies of effective teaching,etc.However,there are few studies on effective English classroom teaching in higher vocational colleges in China.The ultimate purpose of this study is to apply the relevant theories of effective teaching at home and abroad to the English classroom teaching.By optimizing classroom teaching strategies,we can improve the teaching effect of English classes in higher vocational colleges,and transform inefficient teaching into efficient teaching.We investigate the strategies in English classroom,teaching effect,interaction,teaching methods,etc.in higher vocational colleges by questionnaires,observation of other English teachers' class teaching,interviews with several English teachers,observation of students' ' learning,etc.,to figure out the common problems in English classroom teaching,and to analyze the reasons.In view of the existing problems and reasons of English classroom teaching in higher vocational colleges,this paper studies the optimization of strategies in the aspects of introduction,teaching of vocabulary,grammar,reading and listening and speaking skills.On the basis of the original strategies of each classroom teaching link,according to the characteristics of higher vocational students,the original strategies are optimized and implemented in practical teaching,aiming at strengthening students' memory and consolidation of English knowledge,and emphasizing the application of English knowledge.In order to test the effectiveness of classroom teaching strategy optimization,two classes were selected as the research objects.Optimized teaching strategies are implemented in the experimental class and traditional teaching methods are adopted in the control class.The evaluation adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods to evaluate the effectiveness of English classroom teaching.The effectiveness of the strategy optimization practice is studied by using the Questionnaire of Vocational College Students' English Classroom Learning Behavior,the Evaluation Table of English Classroom Teaching Quality,two English Test Questionnaires and semi-structured interviews.The experimental results show that the scores of questionnaire and teaching evaluation in the experimental class are significantly higher than those in the control class.The results of the two English tests show that the scores of the second test in the experimental class are significantly higher than those of the first test,especially the scores of fast reading comprehension.At the same time,the second test score of the experimental class is also significantly higher than that of the control class.Through the optimization of effective teaching strategies,students' English classroom learning behavior has been improved,and the quality and effect of English classroom teaching have been recognized by students.During the teaching practice,the students in the experimental class have significantly improved their fast reading ability.The optimization strategy in classroom reading teaching does have a certain promoting effect on improving students' fast reading ability of English articles,so it has a certain guiding significance for English classroom reading teaching in higher vocational colleges.
