A Practice Report On Liaison Interpreting For Interview With Buyers In 2017 China-ASEAN Expo Tourism Exhibition

Tourism is one of the 11 key cooperation areas between China and ASEAN.The 3^rdd China-ASEAN Expo Tourism Exhibition,taking the opportunity of China-ASEAN tourism cooperation year as the turning point,focused on trade,investment and tourism cooperation and the construction of“Maritime Silk Road”in the 21^st century.It aims to promote a new leap in China-ASEAN tourism cooperation,and promotes the construction of 21^st century“Maritime Silk Road”.The author served as a liaison interpreter for the interview with buyers in China-ASEAN Tourism Exhibition.Based on this interpreting practice,this report first briefly introduces the task background and interpreting process,and then conducts self-reflection on the interpreting performance.In case analysis,this report assesses the quality of this interpreting practice from aspects of accuracy,completeness,and fluency.Since the biggest challenge encountered in this interpreting practice came from two Middle East interviewees,this report analyzes the characteristics of Middle East English with detailed cases.In addition,this report analyzes and discusses the abilities and techniques that professional interpreters should possess by combining relevant interpreting theories,such as deverbalization and effort allocation.This report also discusses the difficulties that the author encountered in the process of interpreting and their solutions.Through the analysis of this interpreting practice,the author recognized her own shortcomings and proposed measures of improvement,providing a reference for interpreter in the entry-level.
