Interpreting note-taking is an indispensable skill in the process of interpretation.Nowadays,more and more theoretical studies and practices show that the quality of professional interpreters' note-taking greatly affects the quality of interpretation.However,few studies have been conducted on student interpreters' note-taking and owing to the restricted quantity of experimental subjects and the impact of incredible variables,the empirical research of interpreting note-taking still falls behind other interpreting theories.In order to better explore the role of note-taking in consecutive interpretation,this thesis focused on the empirical study of the features of student interpreters' note-taking in interpretation.Selecting Daniel Gile's Effort Model as the guiding theory,this thesis intercepts Chairman Xi Jinping's 5 minutes and 39 seconds speech as Chinese-English interpretation materials and the former British Prime Minister Cameron's 6 minutes 41 seconds speech as English-Chinese interpretation materials.I select 14 MTI graduate students majoring in interpretation in Inner Mongolia University as experimental subjects for consecutive interpretation experiments.By means of on-the-spot recording,audio transcription and interpreters' notes collection,the data was collected and analyzed by Excel and SPSS 22.0 statistical software.The correlation between the note-taking quantity,note-taking language choice and note-taking forms and the quality of interpretation output of 14 students was studied.The research angle is novel and innovative.The experimental data are real,effective,objective and scientific.The results show that: firstly,there is no correlation between the note-taking quantity and quality of interpretation in both C-E and E-C CI.Secondly,in both C-E and E-C CI,student interpreters who take notes in target language are higher than those recorded in source language.Thirdly,note-taking forms in both C-E and E-C are positively related to the quality of interpretation.Finally,this paper gave some suggestions on the study of interpreting notes,acquired the preliminary results of the empirical study of interpreting notes,and provided a reference and new ideas for the follow-up study of larger samples.
